Briscoe and Curtis investigate the murder of Donny Gibson, who was found dead in a parking lot. Gibson installed sound systems in bars and clubs and was out with $4000 in cash in his pocket looking to buy some high end speakers. The police know that that Sean Russo, the son of an imprisoned mob boss, met him that night though he denies it. When Jack McCoy concludes that the young Russo is likely now the head of the Russo crime family, he has his bail raised to $10 million. When the DA's office learns there's a connection between Gibson and a nightclub owner putting up some of the bail, McCoy goes after the night club owners, Tom Wilder and Jeff Stahl who told Russo that Gibson was pressing for the payment of outstanding bills for the sound system he installed. He also threatened to go to the FBI to let them know Russo was an investor in their club. McCoy biggest problem in the case however is a federal prosecutor who also wants to go after Russo. Detectives Briscoe and Curtis investigate the death of septuagenarian Peter Triandos who is found dead - strangled - in his apartment. While still investigating the scene, the dead man's much younger wife, Kim Triandos, arrives claiming she was at a museum ball while her husband was entertaining a group of disadvantaged students from his old primary school to whom he promised, years before, that if they stayed in school he would pay for their college education. A total of 17 students were at the party. So was Kim Triandos' mother who says one of the parents, Luis Polanco, got into an argument with Peter. The police quickly return to the young wife however when they catch her in a lie. She denies killing her husband but the DA's office think she conspired with her husband's lawyer, Oliver Shain. The man had been at his business late the night before and was killed with the gun he kept in his desk drawer. When they learn she was seen with a young Hispanic-looking man however, they focus on an affair as being the principal cause of the shooting. Irina worked in a lab and one of her colleagues Alex Nunez, proves to be her lover.
